[Abk. für Corporation for Research and Educational Networking, dt. »Körperschaft für die Vernetzung in Forschung und Lehre«], eine nicht gewinnorientierte Organisation mit Sitz in den USA, in der über 220 Universitäten, Hochschulen und Forschungseinrichtungen zusammengeschlossen sind, und die von einem Ausschuss von zwölf Treuhändern geleitet wird. Aufgabe des CREN ist es, die Vernetzung von Bildungs- und Forschungsstätten zu unterstützen. CREN entstand aus dem Zusammenschluss von BITNET und CSNET. Das Netz basiert auf IBM-eigenen Tranportprotokollen.
